Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, created by Bill Gates and Melinda (the Microsoft founder) was the main beneficiary. This foundation focused on global health and education. Bill and Buffett had been in contact since the 1990s. The three Buffett children and the Susan Thompson Buffett Foundation (named after his wife) were among the foundations that received donations. They were focused on the rights of women's reproductive health, provided scholarships for college students, and also additional charities. In 2010 Buffett and Gates came up with the Giving Pledge. This pledge encouraged other wealthy people to give the majority of their fortunes to charities.
